Program Overview
About This Program
Toronto Metropolitan University’s Computer Science program is a four-year honours degree that develops skills in programming, software development, algorithms, computer systems and other areas of computing. Students build a foundation in computer science while developing practical problem-solving and technical skills.
The program covers areas such as software engineering, data structures and algorithms, operating systems, computer networks, databases, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Students can also use electives to explore areas that match their academic and career interests.
Co-op and Experiential Learning
Computer Science students may apply to the optional co-op program, which combines academic study with paid work experience. The co-op option can provide up to 20 months of work experience across four work terms and normally extends the degree to five years.
Admission to the co-op option is competitive and is not guaranteed when a student is admitted to the regular Computer Science program.
Careers in Computer Science
Graduates can pursue opportunities across the technology sector and other industries that rely on computing and digital systems. Potential career paths include software development, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, systems development and user experience engineering.
Graduates may also pursue further education in computer science, data science and other graduate or professional programs.
