Brief history 

Northern College was established in 1967 as a community college to serve the needs of the northern region of Ontario, Canada. The college’s initial campus was located in Porcupine, near the city of Timmins. At the time, the college offered certificate and diploma programs in fields such as business, engineering, and health sciences.

In 1972, Northern College opened a second campus in Kirkland Lake, which focused on programs in natural resources and mining technology. In 1980, the college opened a third campus in Haileybury, which offered programs in business, technology, and health sciences.

In 1993, Northern College became one of the first colleges in Ontario to offer distance education programs. This allowed students in remote or rural areas to access college programs without having to travel to one of the college’s campuses.
