Program Overview
About This Program
York University's Computer Science program is offered through the Lassonde School of Engineering and provides students with a foundation in computing, programming, algorithms, software development and the mathematical principles underlying computer science.
Students can study areas such as artificial intelligence, data structures, databases, computer networks, software engineering, operating systems and other areas of modern computing.
York offers Computer Science through both Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) pathways. The BSc pathway includes additional science requirements, while both pathways develop core computer science knowledge and technical problem-solving skills.
Admission to York Computer Science
For Ontario secondary school applicants, admission to York University's Computer Science program is competitive. York currently identifies the admission range as the low-to-mid 80s.
Applicants to the BSc pathway require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English, Advanced Functions, another Grade 12 U mathematics course and either Grade 12 U Chemistry or Physics.
Applicants should have at least a 75% average across the required mathematics courses, with no mathematics prerequisite below 65%.
Published admission ranges are guidelines rather than guaranteed cutoffs. The actual average required can change according to the number and academic strength of applicants.
Co-op and Experiential Learning
Computer Science students can gain practical experience alongside their academic studies through experiential-learning opportunities.
Work-integrated learning can help students develop technical and professional skills while gaining experience in areas such as software development, technology, data and computing.
Students should review current eligibility requirements and application procedures for co-op and other experiential-learning opportunities directly with York University.
Tuition
For the 2026–27 academic year, York University estimates annual Computer Science tuition at approximately $8,800 for domestic students and $38,000 for international students, based on a typical full-time course load.
Supplementary fees and other educational expenses are additional. Actual tuition depends on course enrolment and student fee status, so students should confirm their individual costs with York University.
Career Opportunities
A Computer Science degree can prepare graduates for careers across technology and other industries that depend on computing.
Potential career paths include software development, data science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, systems analysis, cloud computing, database administration and related technology roles.
