Brief history 

The University was founded by royal charter in 1827 as King’s College, the first institution of higher learning in Upper Canada. Admission requirements 

University of Toronto admission requirement may vary depending on the program and level of study. The following are some guidelines of the university’s admission requirements: 

  • Undergraduate programs: Applicants must have completed secondary school (high school) with acceptable grades in their required courses. Applicants must also submit their transcripts, English language proficiency test scores (if applicable), and any other required documentation.
  • Graduate programs: Applicants must have completed a four-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a minimum GPA of B+. They must also provide transcripts, letters of recommendation, and in some cases, standardized test scores such as GRE or GMAT.
  • International students: International applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of their English language proficiency by taking an approved English language test such as TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE.
